We’re Hiring: Box Office Staff at the Dave Barber Cinematheque

Are you passionate about cinema? Do you enjoy engaging with the public in a vibrant, artist-run space? Join our team as a Box Office Staff Member! This is a vital front-facing role at the Dave Barber Cinematheque that supports our mandate of advancing the art of cinema.

Position Type: Casual, hourly unionized position
Wage: $17.00/hour 
Department: Dave Barber Cinematheque
Reports to: Box Office Manager
Union Affiliation: This is a unionized position covered under the Collective Agreement between the Winnipeg Film Group and IATSE Local 63. All employees must become and remain members in good standing within 90 days of hire.

Summary of Duties

The Box Office Staff Member is the first point of contact for patrons at the Dave Barber Cinematheque. The role focuses on customer service, concession and ticket sales, and maintaining a clean, welcoming, and safe environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Greeting patrons and handling box office and concession sales
  • Preparing and restocking concessions
  • Performing general cleaning and opening/closing duties
  • Assisting with audience seating, ticket scanning, and theatre presentation
  • Interfacing with other WFG staff and volunteers as needed
  • Responding to patron inquiries and resolving basic technical issues
  • Maintaining a safe and inclusive public space in line with WFG’s Safer Spaces Policy

Required Qualifications

  • Friendly, courteous, and professional with strong customer service skills
  • Comfortable working with point-of-sale systems and basic AV/ticketing tech
  • Responsible and dependable with availability for evenings and weekends
  • Knowledge of or interest in film and the arts
  • Able to problem-solve and remain calm in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player who works well independently and collaboratively
  • Must obtain Smart Choices Certification prior to first scheduled shift (per LGCA policy and WFG’s Alcohol Policy)
  • Working artists are encouraged to apply.

Additional Notes

  • This is a casual position with hours scheduled on an as-needed basis. 
  • This position may include evening, weekend, and holiday shifts based on programming needs.
  • The successful candidate will be provided with orientation and training during paid hours.
