Dave Barber Cinematheque screens the best in Canadian and world cinema while highlighting Winnipeg filmmakers and underrepresented artists. Our adventurous audiences appreciate our fearless commitment to showing films that are important, controversial, conscientious and committed to an independent vision.

Do more than just watch

Grab one of the 85 seats in our intimate Exchange District theatre and escape the everyday movie experience.

Many screenings include locally made shorts, panel discussions, Q&As with guest artists, and lobby receptions where you can ask more questions. We host several arts and cultural events through partnerships with other community groups and rent out our facilities for private functions.

We welcome educators to book private classroom screenings of showings that pair with lesson plans and engage learners.

Dave Barber’s legacy

Dave Barber’s contribution to independent film in Canada during his 40-year tenure at the Winnipeg Film Group made his name synonymous with our exhibition venue Cinematheque. Following his passing in 2021, we made it official.

Inspired by Dave’s legacy, we continue the mission to sustain and grow the community of independent film lovers for years to come.
