Following the Winnipeg Film Group’s We’re Still Here: 50 Years of the Winnipeg Film Group archival exhibition commemorating the organization’s half-century of history, the artist-run centre continues its anniversary celebration with a week-long film festival that reflects the bold, independent spirit that has defined it since 1974.
Running September 23–28, 2025 at the Dave Barber Cinematheque, We’re Still Here: 50 Years of the Winnipeg Film Group Festival includes premieres, guest programmers, filmmaker talks, and special events that honour both the history and the future of independent cinema in Winnipeg.
Chase Joynt and Julietta Singh’s The Nest transforms a single home from a place of siloed histories into a site of radical collective potential. Opens September 4, followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Julietta Singh, moderated by Leslie Supnet. Join us on September 5 at 5pm for a post-screening Q&A with filmmaker Julietta Singh and producer Alicia Smith, moderated by Kevin Nikkel.
Audrey Lam’s debut feature, the poetic Us and The Night, opens September 5. Ten years in the making and shot on transcendent 16mm, this is an unconventional love story for every book-loving introvert.
